Support for LGBTQ+ and Neurodiverse Communities
Welcome to Rainbow Minds, a compassionate space where individuals and families from the LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse communities can find the support and guidance they deserve. Our dedicated team of highly trained therapists is committed to providing specialised counselling and psychotherapy services tailored to your unique needs. Whether you're an individual, a couple, an adolescent, or a family, we are here to help you on your journey towards healing and self-discovery.
While we primarily serve the LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse communities, our therapists also work with those outside these communities. We are glad you're here and taking the first steps on your journey, and we hope to join you along the way.
Our Story: A Journey of Understanding and Empathy
Hi, I’m James Byrne, founder of Rainbow Minds. Rainbow Minds was born from a deep understanding that our communities—LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent people—deserve a service that not only understands us but is us. As someone in these communities, I knew firsthand that the care we need must go beyond generic therapy. It must be informed by the lived experiences of those who understand what it means to walk in our shoes.
My journey began with a simple realisation: traditional therapy often lacked the cultural competence and education needed to serve the unique needs of LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse individuals truly.
That’s when it became clear to me that the solution had to come from within: our community needs to heal and be supported with the help of people who understand our struggles from a personal, informed, and educated perspective. So Rainbow Minds was born and launched on my birthday that year!
From Lived Experience to Expert Care
I set out to create a space where compassion and expertise meet. We are not just therapists with general qualifications—we are people who have lived the same experiences and continue to navigate the complexities of identity, acceptance, and mental health ourselves. We are counsellors who continually strive for educational betterment, including ongoing formal training and education and listening to other voices within our communities.
Many of our team members are from LGBTQ+ and/or neurodivergent communities, and we incorporate their experiences into every aspect of our therapeutic approach.
We also acknowledge and understand the uniqueness of our own and your journeys and that lived experience can play a crucial role. Still, sometimes it is not enough, so at Rainbow Minds, that ‘lived experience’ does not automatically mean you join our team; each team member has and continues to undergo training in working with our clientele and must demonstrate ongoing learning.
Our team of passionate professionals translates personal insights into culturally competent therapy. We don't just talk about inclusion—we live it. And as our communities evolve, so does our practice. We prioritise ongoing education and personal growth to ensure our therapy services remain relevant, effective, and always rooted in empathy.
A Shared Mission for Change
Our mission is simple: to create positive, lasting change in the lives of everyone we work with. At Rainbow Minds, we provide a safe, affirming space where you can feel valued, understood, and supported as you journey toward well-being. Whether you’re seeking help for yourself, your partner, or your family, we are here to guide you with empathy, expertise, and the lived experience that fuels our practice.
